This version won't save my step length
I use it personally and i dont think i run into that problem Alex!
maybe its specific to your device, idk!
you can wait for an update (maybe it'll fix your problem), 1.2.5 is currently the latest version.
I tried in another device and didn't work. The only way it don't reset my step length is if I star the app without any connection to the internet, otherwise it is reseted :(
